CBETA Equipment Protection System

The specific equipment protection system requirements, operational details and system testing is separately defined for each intended mode of operation.

Permanent Magnet Protection

In order to protect the Halbach permanent magnets in the FFA loop from demagnitization, beam losses on any individual magnet must be limited to less than 100 pA continuous current.

Modes of Operation

These are the current modes of operation, set automatically in EPICS under the variable EPSSTE01_state.

  • This state occurs when none of the other states are valid. It should not happen in normal operation

0 : MACHINE OFF

  • PPSMRC00_led.RVAL == 0

1 : ZERO CHARGE MODE

  • | MA3DPA01 _cmd | < 0.1 amps
  • LLRLDM01_low_on_led == 1

2 : Gun-ICM Only

3 : Diagnostic Line (Slits IN)

4 : Diagnostic Line (Slits OUT)

5 : MLC OFF

  • MA3DPA01 _cmd < 0.1 amps
  • | MS1DIP01 _cmd | <= 0.5
  • Number of MLC cavities not tripped == 0

6 : MLC (Single Cavity)

  • MA3DPA01 _cmd < 0.1 amps
  • | MS1DIP01 _cmd | <= 0.5
  • Number of MLC cavities not tripped == 1

7 : MLC

  • MA3DPA01 _cmd < 0.1 amps
  • | MS1DIP01 _cmd | <= 0.5

Description of test

Confirm that all EPICS IOC names communicate with the defined hardware module.
