Purpose
To acknowledge CESR refill and CHESS running conditions and verify CHESS monitoring systems.
Materials and Equipment Needed
  1. CHESS Beamphone
  2. Networked computer
  3. Internet browser
Safety
  1. Safety Issues: none
Procedure
  1. Announce that there are 5 minutes remaining in the run using the intercom button on a CHESS Beamphone.
    1. “Attention CHESS Experimenters, the current run will be ending in five minutes.”
    2. If a user requests that a few extra minutes be added to the run:
      1. Call the CESR Operator and ask that the run be extended using CHESS Beamphone.
      2. Announce that the run has been extended by X minutes using the intercom button on the CHESS Beamphone.
  2. At 0 minutes on the run clock, CESR Operator will announce the end of the run.
    1. “CHESS, we would like to end this run to top off CESR. Please acknowledge when ready.”
  3. Respond “CHESS acknowledges” using the intercom button on the CHESS Beamphone.
  4. When refill is complete, CESR Operator will announce return to CHESS conditions:
    1. “CHESS, filling and tuning are complete. Please acknowledge.”
  5. Verify CHESS VBPM video feeds are active and close to target. (Fig. 1)
    1. Inactive BPMs will display “STATIC IMAGE”.
  6. Verify CESR BPM bar graph values are close to 0 on CESR scoreboard.
  7. Verify CESR currents and lifetimes are in nominal conditions. (Fig. 2)
  8. Announce beginning of run to users:
    1. “Attention CHESS Experimenters, a new run has begun; you may continue when ready.”
  9. Verify BPM, ion chamber, chiller temperature and hygrometer signals on signal monitoring computer are in normal conditions. (Fig. 4)
    1. Look for:
      1. Signal dropouts (flat or constant)
      2. Position Shifts (abrupt shifts or gradual trends)
      3. Excessive noise
    2. If more detail is required, use CHESS signals page interface on another computer.
  10. Walk through CHESS East, West, and G-line
    1. Look for:
    2. Safety issues
    3. Blocked pathways
    4. User Problems
