Accessing the Program

Access to this tool is restricted. Please submit a ServiceRequest if you believe you need access.

This program is only used to create temporary CLASSE External User accounts, generally for CHESS users. For a permanent CLASSE account, please fill out the NewUserForm.

Running the Program

  1. Connect to WinApp2 per https://wiki.classe.cornell.edu/Computing/AccessingWinApp#WinApp2_40New_Nov_4505_452018_41
  2. The External User Creator icon is on the desktop.

Using the program / Creating a User

  1. You will need to enter all the requested information.
    • NOTE, it is important to make sure the user's e-mail address is correct so they can use the password reset tool if necessary.
  2. Make sure to set End of Visit in the future - the end of the current RUN is a good date.
  3. Click on "Create User".

  4. Wait until a text file pops up. This file has the user account information.

    • This file is intended to be printed - there is a limited number of available printers and the printer must be connected to the CLASSE print server to be used.
    • Alternatively, you could copy and paste the contents into an e-mail, or a local notepad window for printing from the computer you're on.
    • If you get an error, then the account was probably not created properly. Please open a ticket at service-classe@cornell.edu immediately with the problem and a detailed description of the error (a screenshot is best).

If the user already has an account

  • You may get a notice that the user already has an account - this is determined by the user's e-mail address.

  • Because password resets are communicated via e-mail, we cannot have 2 different users with the same e-mail address, so you are REQUIRED to edit that existing account.
  • You can then change their names or change to a new e-mail address, or extend the account to a later date and save the changes.

Reset a user password

With this program

  1. Enter the user's information, and use the same e-mail address they initially used.
  2. When prompted, click "Yes" to edit the existing account.
  3. Check the box next to "Reset Password".

  4. It will generate a new information page as above with the new password.

User self service

  1. Assuming the user's e-mail address was entered correctly during account creation, users can reset their own password. Details are printed at the bottom of the information sheet generated by this program.
  2. Direct the user to the URL: https://www.classe.cornell.edu/pwm
  3. Ask the user to click on "Activate Account / Forgot Password" near the bottom of the web page.

  4. The user will then receive an e-mail with an activation link. As a backup, the email also contains a token to be copied and pasted into the password reset webpage.
  5. The user can then choose a new password. The user must go through the whole process to reset the password.
    • If the reset was successful, a confirmation will both appear on the web page and be sent to their e-mail address.
