Part 1 – Adding LPR support to Windows NT

  1. Click on the Start button
    Navigate to Settings / Control Panel
  2. In the Control Panel, double click on the Network icon.
  3. Click on the Services tab
  4. Highlight Computer Browser by single left clicking, and then click on the Add button.
  5. This window will appear.
    Single left click on Microsoft TCP / IP Printing just as shown in the picture.
  6. Click OK
  7. NOTE You may be prompted for the Windows NT CD. If so, the necessary files are located in the WinNT\i386 directory of the CD.
  8. Once the files have been copied over to your computer, this window will show up again.
    Click Close
  9. You need to restart your computer now before going any further.
    If you don't reset your computer, you won't be able to continue.
  10. Once your machine has been reset, double click on My Computer, and then double click on Printers.


Adding a Printer

  1. Double Click on Add Printer
  2. Make sure the radio button next to My Computer is selected, and click Next.
  3. Click on Add Port
  4. Select LPR Port from the bottom of the list and then click on New Port
  5. For the Name of address of server providing lpd enter lns61.lns.cornell.edu. For the Name of Printer or Queue... enter W374_SAM_2551.
  6. Now click on the Close button
  7. Click the Next button
  8. Under Manufacturer select SAMSUNG and under Printer select ML-2550 Series PS.
  9. Enter a name for the printer you are adding, and Click Next.
  10. Make sure the Not shared radio button is selected.
    Click Next.
  11. Now try and print a test page to see if this worked.
    Click Finish.
  12. You should now be able to print by selecting the printer name you entered in step 9.
