Fake Antivirus Popups

If you have a CLASSE-managed computer, you might occasionally see legitimate popup windows from our ESET antivirus software. Any other antivirus popups (i.e not from ESET) are fake. Please DO NOT click on these fake antivirus popups (or otherwise "allow" them to do anything). Instead, simply close the popup window (or webpage tab) or log out and log back in. If you are unable to dismiss the popup window, please submit a ServiceRequest.

macOS Mojave Deprecation

This fall, when the next version of macOS (Monterey) is released, the supported versions of macOS will be macOS 10.15.x (Catalina), macOS 11.x (Big Sur), and the newest version of macOS (Monterrey). Macs running macOS 10.14.x (Mojave) or earlier will need to be upgraded to macOS 10.15 or newer by the end of 2021 in order to comply with Cornell University security requirements. Also, some recent Mojave security updates have broken Kerberos, making it impossible to log into the affected Macs with CLASSE credentials. To schedule an upgrade of your CLASSE-managed Mac, please submit a ServiceRequest. To see what version of macOS your Mac is running, select "About This Mac" under the Apple menu () in the upper left corner of your screen. The upgrade process takes around half a day and may require you to bring your Mac to the lab.

PSA: Cornell Password Management Service

According to one estimate, the average person has 100 passwords to remember. Since 2018, Cornell has provided a secure password management service called LastPass to all members of the Cornell community. Instead of storing your passwords directly in your web browser, we encourage you to use a central service like LastPass, which can facilitate the process of migrating from one browser to another (e.g. from Firefox to Vivaldi).

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
