The old Xerox 5550 printer stopped working. We replaced that printer with a new Brother 6200 printer. The printer name stayed the same (w210_xrx_5550). The new printer does not print 11X17 paper size, so please use the w229_xrx_7800_11x17 printer queue for 11X17 printouts.

Reboot of LNX201 on Tuesday, 22-AUG-2017 at 10 AM

Our general purpose Linux login node, lnx201, will be rebooted at 10 AM on Tuesday, 22-AUG-2017 for routine maintenance. Please logout of lnx201 before 10 AM Tuesday.

Also, please consider switching from lnx201 to using qrsh or the Windows Classe Grid icon to run interactive jobs in the CLASSE Compute Farm. For more information on using the Compute Farm from Windows, see WindowsRemoteLinuxScript . For information on launching interactive jobs from a Linux desktop, please see GridEngine .

Microsoft Office Upgrade on Tuesday, 29-AUG-2017

Microsoft Office will be upgraded from 2010 to Microsoft Office 2016 during the standard maintenance window on Tuesday morning, 29-AUG-2017.

• Existing settings will carry over
• There are no known file compatibility issues.
• Most bugs in search are fixed

Cornell training for Office 2016 is available on Skillsoft and Lynda. The computer group doesn't provide training directly, but can assist you in finding something appropriate.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
