Change to Caller ID

Beginning Saturday, December 16, calls placed from your Cornell phone to off-campus numbers will display your Cornell phone number instead of being shown as unknown. This change is necessary to support the university’s new 911 system, launching January 8, 2018, to provide the necessary location information in emergencies.

For more information, see https://it.cornell.edu/phones/caller-id-faq.

Kronos to be replaced by Workday

Starting January 4, 2018, nonexempt, biweekly staff and student employees will use Workday instead of Kronos to manage and record time worked and time off. For instructional videos and more information, please visit the Workday Time Tracking page. Questions can be directed to Human Resources.

Continuity of Box access

If you use Cornell Box for data storage, you (or your supervisor) might wonder what happens to your files when you leave Cornell. The answer can be found at https://it.cornell.edu/box/leaving-cornell. Basically, access to your Cornell Box files goes away when your Cornell NetID is disabled. So, to preserve institutional knowledge, any folders that are work-related should be transferred to a co-worker before you leave Cornell.

Watch Out for Holiday-Themed Phishing Scams

This holiday season, watch out for email spam with subjects like:
  • Holiday e-card
  • Holiday sales/discounts/deals
  • Travel notifications

Criminals will continue to spam people throughout the holidays with the hopes that the email subject line will trick someone.

To see more examples of common holiday scams, both online and offline, visit the Better Business Bureau website: http://www.bbb.org/holidayscams

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
