[CIT] Cornell Wireless Network Outage: Tuesday, 09-Feb-2021 @ 5:00 AM

On Tuesday, February 9th at 5:00am the Cornell University wireless system will be unavailable for 10-15 minutes for firmware patching. All three wireless networks will be affected including eduroam, RedRover, and Cornell-Visitor. For more information, please see this announcement.

Vivaldi vs. Firefox

As announced in previous newsletters, the primary web browser supported by CLASSE-IT is now Vivaldi. Instructions for launching Vivaldi, importing bookmarks, and setting Vivaldi as the deafult browser are available here. For those websites that do not work well with Vivaldi, we are continuing to make Firefox available on CLASSE-managed systems as a backup or secondary option. For assistance with using Vivaldi, please submit a ServiceRequest.

[CIT] Zoom Upgrade

Beginning last Wednesday, 03-Feb-2021, Cornell Zoom users must have the Zoom client application version 5.2 or greater to log in or join Cornell Zoom meetings. Instructions for upgrading Zoom are available here. Please submit a ServiceRequest if you need assistance upgrading Zoom on your CLASSE-managed computer.

[CIT] Text Message Phishing Scam

Several users at Cornell have recently reported being targed by a variant of the common "are you available" scam, in which the phishing messages were delivered by SMS text message, rather than by email. Please exercise caution when you receive a text message from an unknown number. More information about this scam is available here.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
