CLASSE network and service maintenance Tuesday, February 21, starting at 10AM

We will be reconfiguring core CLASSE switches and restarting several services between 10AM and Noon on Tuesday. This may result in periodic pauses in network or file connectivity, but should not result in any application failures or prolonged outages or disruptions.

Firefox cache size

We recommend you limit the size of your firefox cache to 24MB. This is especially important on Linux, where the firefox cache can easily eat into your 1GB home directory quota.
  • click on the Edit pulldown menu and select Preferences
  • click on the Advanced heading, and click on the Network tab.
  • Check Override automatic cache management and select a maximum cache size such as 24

For more notes and recommendations on firefox, please see FirefoxBrowser.

Linux Adobe Flash Firefox Plugin Security update on Tuesday 21-Feb-2017

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
