Disk Server Reboot: Samba and Main User Disk, Tue 17-Jul-2018 @ 12:00 Noon

At 12:00 noon on Tuesday, 17-Jul-2018, one of our central disk servers will be rebooted to repair a failed controller. This will result in a 5-minute pause for samba, the main user disk, among other file systems. For the full list of affected file systems, please see last week's newsletter.

Network Outage, Tuesday, 24-Jul-2018 @ 12:00 Noon

At 12:00 noon on Tuesday, 24-Jul-2018, we will upgrade the network infrastructure for the CLASSE Compute Farm and the Wilson Lab East Module server room. As a result, network access to the Wilson Lab East Module will be interrupted for about two hours, during our normal maintenance window. Since this upgrade includes a small reconfiguration of the central CLASSE network switch, there is a chance that internal CLASSE networks will also be affected. If we encounter any problems, we will roll back the changes so that network service is restored by the end of the maintenance window.

Compute Farm Outage, Friday, 20-Jul-2018 @ 5:00 PM

The network outage mentioned above will disrupt network access to the CLASSE Compute Farm. Therefore, we are disabling the queues several days in advance to make sure all running jobs can complete without network interruptions. At 5:00 PM on Friday, 20-Jul-2018, we will disable the Compute Farm queues, and submissions of new jobs will be suspended until the network upgrade is complete. Jobs that are running when the queues are disabled will continue to run to completion.

CHESS Firewall Upgrade, Friday, 20-Jul-2018 @ 5:00 PM

At 5:00 PM on Friday, 20-Jul-2018, the CHESS firewall will be upgraded.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
