Update to SL7.5: Tuesday, 25-Sep-2018

Starting Tuesday morning, 25-Sep-2018, all CLASSE SL7 systems will update from Scientific Linux 7.4 to Scientific Linux 7.5. Updated kernels and Nvidia drivers are included, but won't be used until you reboot your computer. Release notes are available at https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/html/7.5_Release_Notes/

New (more secure) authentication methods available for Samba

On Tuesday morning, 19-Sep-2018, CLASSE Samba servers will be reconfigured to support kerberos authentication. All old authentication methods will continue to work, so you do not need to do anything. The change should be transparent in the background. For more information on accessing our central filesystems from Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux, please see NetworkedFilesystems .

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
