CLASSE Computing Outage: Tuesday, 25-Sep-2018 @ 8:30 AM

On Tuesday, 25-Sep-2018 at 8:30 AM, there will be disruptions to CLASSE computing services because of a scheduled power outage in Wilson Lab. The exact scope of the disruptions is unknown, but we anticipate that network access across all of CLASSE — Wilson Lab, Newman Lab, PSB — will be affected. In particular, the following CLASSE services will be unreachable from anywhere (both onsite and offsite):
  • Remote logins
  • Printing
  • Samba / Globus / central filesystems
  • Wiki, Indico, Replicon
  • CLASSE, CHESS, CBB, Xraise websites
Also, wifi, email, and web browsing will be unavailable in Wilson Lab. Although the power outage is scheduled to end at 9:30 AM, our network infrastructure might remain down for some time thereafter. Please report any extended service outages via a ServiceRequest.

Upgrade of ACC Build System to Scientific Linux 7 (SL7): Thursday, 27-Sep-2018

The Accelerator (ACC) Build System will be upgraded to SL7 on 27-Sep-2018. This means that all ACC Release builds made after 27-Sep-2018 will only run on CLASSE Linux systems running SL7. As well, this applies to ACC packages, such as CERN ROOT.

REMINDER: Please schedule your upgrade to SL7

If you still have a CLASSE Linux workstation running SL6, please send email to service-classe@cornell.edu to schedule an upgrade. We would like to complete the transition by the end of October.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
