Network Maintenance from 12-4 Wednesday, September 28.

There will be periodic network glitches between Noon and 4pm on Wednesday, September 28. This is required to upgrade legacy hardware at the core of our network, including the CLASSE firewall. While the firewall is down, no computers onsite will be able to reach offsite, and no computers offsite will be able to onsite resources (including the CLASSE website, CHESS USERDB database, etc.).

During this window, we will also replace the core CESR Infrastructure switch and router. This will result in brief network pauses for almost every system on the CESR subnets, and for any offline systems that are accessing CESR Online resources. In addition, the CESR VMS cluster will be shutdown before this maintenance and rebooted after.

We hope the network upgrade will be finished in 30 minutes or so, but unexpected problems could prolong the work substantially, hopefully not past 4pm.

Accelerator SVN server (accserv) upgrade Thursday, September 29.

At approximately 9:00am on Thursday, September 29th, the Accelerator SVN server known as accserv will be shutdown and migrated to a new server. It should be back online Thursday afternoon. Status updates will be sent to the CLASSE-ACC-COMP-L mailing list.

Please perform any necessary SVN checkouts or updates before 9:00am Thursday.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
