LEPP Windows computers Firefox update to 17.0.1ESR

We will be pushing an update tonight to coincide with normal updates to bring Firefox ESR to the next major release of Firefox, 17.0.1ESR. As a reminder, ESR releases are supported for one year with point updates for security and stability. CESR10 to be retired: final Backup at the end of December.

The ancient VAX/VMS computer CESR10 is getting too old to maintain. Its last backup will happen at the end of December, 2012. We expect to shut the computer down permanently early next year. If you have files on CESR10 which you will need access to, please move them to another computer soon.

W229_xrx_7800 color printer

The new Xerox color printer in Wilson #229 has been repaired again. We need users to use the Xerox color printer instead of the IBM color printer to make sure the margin cut off problem does not re-occur again. If you experience any problems with your color printouts from the Xerox color printer, please report the problems to service-lepp@.cornell.edu so that we can call Xerox and have them make the proper fix.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
