New Antivirus Software on CLASSE-Managed Computers

We have tentatively scheduled the switch over from Symantec Endpoint Protection to ESET Endpoint Security for the standard update period on Monday, April 18th, 2016. Operations will be verified and any issues addressed on Tuesday, April 19th, 2016. We are scheduling this to coincide with the Spring Down. This will not need to be a multi step deployment after all. Additional details will be released on the week of deployment.

User Impact

  • SEP will be removed. EES will be installed.
  • You will see a splash screen on each login that says ESET Endpoint Security for a couple seconds. You can ignore this.
  • You may get a new EES notification if it finds anything suspicious on its first scan. We will be notified by the software.
    • You can open a service ticket if you see anything that is concerning to you.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
