Another bogus phish: do NOT "Update your Cornell University Webmail"

Many people have received yet another attempt to steal their Cornell login credentials. It has the subject "Update your Cornell University Webmail". If you clicked on its link and filled out its form, you must change your Cornell NetID password immediately and contact the CIT helpdesk to let them know. For more information and a list of this and similar bogus messages, please see http://www.it.cornell.edu/security/phishbowl.cfm

Java on CLASSE Managed Windows computers

Per previous notices, we have removed Java support from our managed computers. Previous versions of Java will be uninstalled to make sure they cannot be exploited. Patched versions of Java are available on WinApp via Firefox and on CLASSE Linux computers. Please open a service request if you need assistance using these alternatives.

All CESR Software Users: Current Working Directory will no longer be defined in your PATH after Tuesday 17-Nov-2015.

We have discovered a bug in the method used to define a CESR User's search PATH - the current working directory was mistakenly added to all CESR Users' PATH. This is a security issue and could cause unpredictable results executing a program since the search PATH may first look inside the current working directory for the program or support library, instead of the expected program or support library PATH location. This issue will be fixed tomorrow (Tuesday 17-Nov-2015) at 10:30 am. To have the changes take effect for active users, they will need to logout and back in again, thus re-sourcing the CESR environment. Please email any questions or concerns to service@classe.cornell.edu .

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
