Bogus Mail Maintenance message: Don't Click That!

Never click on Web links in messages from people you don't know.

This (Monday) morning, an email message was received by many people from the address beb4@cornell.edu claiming to be a notice about Mail maintenance and asking you to click on a web link. That link leads to a site which will try to steal your Cornell NetID and password.

64-bit Scientific Linux 5

LEPP is currently transitioning from Scientific Linux 4 to Scientific Linux 5, and from 32-bit to 64-bit where possible. During this transition period, all accelerator builds should continue to be done on 32-bit SL4. The best way to ensure you are building on an appropriate system is to use any central servers that are dedicated as build nodes for your project.

Additional information will be sent as this transition progresses. For initial notes on SL5 and the transition to 64-bit, please see:

For help finding which computer is appropriate for your use, please see:

Don't use steps to Computer Group offices

The steps on the end of the LEPP trailer have broken and are dangerous. Please don't use them until they've been repaired. There's a yellow Caution tape, but it often falls down.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
