CHESS MACHINE SHOP
Machine Shop Staff:

SAFETY
Dial “911” in any emergency situation. Dialing “911” from CHESS phones will connect you with Cornell police
Report ALL injuries that occur in the machine shop to a member of the machine shop staff
A First Aid Kit is located immediately to the right of the entrance into the back caged area of the shop
RULES

  1. Safety glasses must be worn at all times in the shop
  2. Closed toed shoes must be worn at all times in the shop
  3. Long hair must be tied back or secured
  4. Do not wear loose fitting clothing, long necklaces, or any other jewelry that could interfere with machining
  5. Always clamp/secure the material being worked on before starting the machine
  6. Put all equipment that you use back where you found it
  7. Clean each machine and tool after you are done using it. Brooms, rags, and vacuums are located in the corner of the shop near the lathe
  8. No Soldering in the CHESS Machine Shop. Soldering can be done in the designated, ventilated soldering station located in L0E
  9. Do not machine lead or G10 (fiberglass) in the CHESS Machine Shop. See machine shop staff if you need to work with these materials.
  10. No open flames in the machine shop
  11. If you damage a piece of equipment in the shop or have a problem with it, notify the machine shop staff or the CHESS Operator
  12. If you are unsure how to use a piece of equipment or complete a project, ask for help – do not attempt to use equipment you are unfamiliar with or are not trained to use
  13. Avoid distractions – do not wear headphones while working in the shop. Never look away from your work when operating a power tool.
