Accelerator Subversion Server Upgrade

For required functionality not available in our current server, the Accelerator group plans on upgrading the central Subversion repository server, accserv, starting at 5pm Monday 4/11. Users should plan for the repository server to be unavailable from 5pm Monday 4/11 until Tuesday morning, 4/12.

The upgraded server has been extensively tested by the accelerator group, and the upgrade process should, for the most part, be transparent. The only potentially disruptive aspect of this upgrade will be a change in the credentials used to login to the upgraded server.

Please see the following page for more details concerning this upgrade, and notify the Accelerator Code Librarian or service-lepp@cornell.edu with any questions or concerns. https://wiki.lepp.cornell.edu/lepp/bin/view/ACC/Private/SvnUpgrade

Linux Compute Farm

Wherever possible, computationally intensive jobs should be submitted to LEPP's Linux Compute Farm. Running jobs on random computers will negatively impact other users or services that may be also using those computers. Please see the following page for instructions on using LEPP's Linux Farm, and email service-lepp@cornell.edu with any problems or questions. https://wiki.lepp.cornell.edu/lepp/bin/view/Computing/GridEngine

Mac Users Printing PDFs

A recent update to Mac OS X has made printing PDFs with the Preview app unreliable. It is strongly suggested you use Adobe Reader to print PDFs on LEPP printers. If you need help setting this up, please submit a service request.

Windows 7 SP1 upgrade

We were planning to push out the upgrade this morning at 3AM per our previous newsletter. Due to some scheduling issues, we plan on pushing it back until we can work out the schedules.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
