More Phishing -- bogus email warning

On Thursday, July 21, many people received email from a non-Cornell address claiming that their email quota was about to be exceeded. The authors of that message want to get your Cornell email login account and password, probably so they can use it for spamming and perhaps to steal your identity. If you responded to the message by going to the Web page that it included, please change the password of your Cornell NetID immediately and contact the CIT helpdesk.

Cornell maintains a Web page showing a sample of recent Phishing attempts at http://www.cit.cornell.edu/security/safety/phishbowl.cfm

LEPP Trailer computer room overheated. Some Farm computers are down

All Solaris and some Linux Farm computers had to be shut down starting at about 16:45 on Thursday. Two of the air conditioners in the LEPP Trailer computer room were refusing to stay on. The room overheated in the record high temperatures. We're not sure when we'll be able to turn them back on again.

New Color Printer at the PSB 4th Floor

We will be deploying a new color printer in PSB room #455 later this week. The printer name is PSB4_XRX_8570. This printer is capable of duplex printing. Signouts for your printouts will be provided. Please make sure to use the signout sheet.

New Replicon server: some bookmarks will need to be updated

The Replicon server failed on Friday. The computer has been replaced and its software updated. Old bookmarks which directly access the server computer may not work. If you have problems accessing Replicon (e.g. "404 - File or directory not found") please update your browser's bookmark to use the URL https://www.lepp.cornell.edu/TimeSheet/replicon

LEPP Unix/Linux file server problems

File partitions on the LEPP Unix/Linux home disk server (SOL105) are having problems and the server crashed at about 12:50pm on Monday, July 25th. Attempts to recover the file system are in progress. Unfortunately, we don't know how long they will take, but hopefully only an hour or so.

LNS61 and LNS62 will be down starting at 5PM Tuesday evening

On Tuesday evening, LNS61 and LNS62 will be moved to a different location in the Wilson computer room, W221. The computers will go down at about 5PM for an hour or two. This may cause some printers to be unavailable while they are down.

CESR Filesystems

Deprecated CESR filesystems and mount points will be removed at 11am Thursday, 7/28. After this point, /nfs/cesr/mnt, /nfs/cesr/sft, /nfs/cesr/instr, and /nfs/cesr/libs_vms will no longer be available. Everything from these mount points has already been moved to /nfs/cesr/online. An announcement with more details will be sent to all members of the cesr_ctl group.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
