CLASSE IT Help Desk hours suspended in Newman and PSB

Mike Roman has been injured in a bike accident and will not be in for a bit. He normally provides our listed Help Desk hours in Newman and PSB. Until he is back, we are suspending the regular hours there. Please feel free to use our service request system by e-mailing service-classe@cornell.edu , or to call with urgent issues.

CLASSE IT survey changes

We've now expanded our IT survey to allow an anonymous "Suggestion Box" option. This is a good place to give us suggestions on IT services that do not specifically relate to a support or ticket interaction.

We've also been receiving surveys now for a little over a year, and we thank everyone who has responded. The responses have been overwhelmingly positive. For more details, see our blog post: http://blogs.cornell.edu/classeit/2015/05/18/survey-results-in-classe-it-group-doing-a-great-job/

Group membership and email

We control read/write permissions on our networked file systems and on our wiki via "security groups". You may look up group membership at https://wiki.classe.cornell.edu/Main/WikiGroups. We have recently added the ability to email all members of a group, so please let us know of any problems with this new functionality.

This page will also tell you if a given person has a CLASSE account.

New student orientation

If you are supervising a summer student this year, you may find our new orientation page a useful place for your student to start. In particular, we have expanded our "Linux for beginners" documentation, as well as our overview of Linux resources at CLASSE.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
