Phishing

In response to the recent successful phishing exploit, CIT has published a web page with general advice about phishing http://itnews.cornell.edu/2013/03/01/java-phish-catches-cornell-by-surprise/ The first video (from Cornell's IT Security Office) contains a detailed analysis of the exploit and how you could have detected it. The CLASSE computer group encourages you to read the page and view the videos (for example, did you think twice before clicking the link in the first sentence?).

lnx113 or accfs replacement

The computer group is working to replace lnx113, also known as accfs. To facilitate this upgrade, all accelerator file systems should be mounted from \\samba instead of \\lnx113 or \\accfs. For example, any links or mapped drives should be updated to use \\samba\accuser, \\samba\acctemp, or \\samba\accsrf. Please submit a ServiceRequest if you would like help updating any links or drive mappings. Please see https://wiki.lepp.cornell.edu/lepp/bin/view/ACC/Private/DiskSpace for documentation on available accelerator disk space.

Office 365 notes

  • Reminder: don't upgrade to iOS 6.1. The Exchange interface bug which causes batteries to drain in less than 4 hours has not yet been patched. I'f you've already upgraded, don't use it to rewpond to Calendar meeting requests. If your phone is already in the "draining battery" state, disable Calendar access.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
