Your first logon to Windows at CLASSE

CLASSE managed Windows computers run Windows 10 Enterprise. The instructions below apply to both.

The first time you login on a Windows computer, you may want to access your Windows User directory, configure e-mail, and do some other "housekeeping."

Your initial account credentials (Username and Password) for all of your CLASSE accounts initially were set to a random value. Changing your CLASSE password changes the password used to login to CLASSE Windows and Linux computers.

  1. Use PWM as described here https://wiki.classe.cornell.edu/Computing/UserAccountsAndPasswords to set your CLASSE Password.
  2. Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to log in.
  3. Enter your username and password.
  4. Ensure that you're logging in to the CLASSE domain, not to 'This Computer". CLASSE Windows computers normally do not have local login accounts.

  5. You should be logged in..

  6. To access your User disk space, which is provided on a CLASSE fileserver, please read https://wiki.classe.cornell.edu/Computing/UserDisk
  7. Please read https://wiki.classe.cornell.edu/Computing/Obsolete/Windows7 for tips on using Windows, including how to access your User Disk space when it prompts you for credentials.
  8. Cornell employees can read email by using a Web browser to go to http://outlook.cornell.edu/
    • specify your Exchange login name as your NetID followed by @cornell.edu
    • Note, when reading e-mail you will need to authenticate using your Cornell NetID and its associated password, not your CLASSE userid and its associated password. The two passwords must not be the same. For more information about your Cornell NetID, see http://www.it.cornell.edu/services/netid/faq.cfm
    • To get set up to use Outlook instead of your Web browser to read e-mail, please submit a service request with the computer name (Example PC102), your name, and suggest a time you will be available for 30 minutes for us to remote in and help you. Submit the request here: https://wiki.classe.cornell.edu/Computing/ServiceRequest
  9. Please read and follow the CLASSE Data Stewardship guidelines: https://wiki.classe.cornell.edu/Computing/DataStewardship
  10. Our recommended and updated browser is Vivaldi. Vivaldi normally uses our ad-blocking Web proxy. This is to protect your computer while you browse the internet. If you have questions about this, please contact the CLASSE computer group by filling out the service request form at https://wiki.classe.cornell.edu/Computing/ServiceRequest or by sending e-mail to service-classe@cornell.edu
