Testing Internet Speed

If you are experiencing persistent slowness with your remote connections to CLASSE computers (via ScreenConnect, X2Go, NoMachine, or ssh), and you would like to submit a ServiceRequest, please test your home/local network speed as described below and include both sets of results in your ticket:
  1. On your home/local computer, browse to https://www.speedtest.net/
    • Please give us the 4 results for:
      • Download speed
      • Upload speed
      • "Ping" latency, 3 numbers in smaller type
    • As an extra test, click on "Change Server", select "Ithaca, NY - Cornell University" and repeat the tests
      • Using the Cornell speedtest server helps characterize the network route your packets actually travel over to get to Cornell
  2. On your home/local computer, using Vivaldi browse to https://speed.cloudflare.com
    • Please wait for the "rabbit" in the upper left hand corner to stop "running".
    • It will take a while - perhaps 3-5 minutes.
    • In Vivaldi go to File -> Save Page As.
    • Please send us that file.
