ScreenConnect Update: Tuesday, 02-Feb-2021 @ 10:30 AM

On Tuesday, 02-Feb-2021, starting at 10:30 AM, the ScreenConnect service will be unavailable for up to an hour for a server update. During this time, you will be disconnected from existing remote sessions, and you will not be able to start new remote sessions. We will distribute client updates during the next standard maintenance window.

Vivaldi Update: Tuesday, 02-Feb-2021

On Tuesday, 02-Feb-2021, during the normal weekly maintenance window, the Vivaldi web browser on CLASSE-managed Windows and Linux computers will be updated to version 3.6. On CLASSE-managed Macs, Vivaldi is updated on a rolling basis. During this update, Vivaldi will close any open browser windows.

New Mac VPN with Two-Step Login

For Mac users, we are offering a trial version of our new VPN service known as Pritunl (pronounced Pre-Tunnel). Pritunl is the only CLASSE VPN that is compatible with macOS Big Sur; it is also backwards-compatible with any previous macOS version. For enhanced security, our Pritunl deployment includes two-step login via Duo, which should be familiar to Cornell users (although a separate CLASSE registration will be required). To get started with Pritunl, please see our documentation for instructions.

Pritunl will be deployed to CLASSE-managed Macs when they are upgraded to Big Sur (planned for 2021). For Windows and Linux users, there are no immediate plans to disable the current VPN server (OpenVPN).

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
