Matlab 2013a License Server Upgrade

PC176, the Matlab license server at CLASSE, will be upgraded at 10:00 AM Tuesday, 4/9. During the time that the server is being upgraded Matlab sessions trying to connect to the license server will time out, and it's possible that existing Matlab sessions may stop. Down time is expected to be less than 15 minutes, but could be longer if problems are encountered. This will not affect stand-alone Matlab instances, but only the ones that use the shared network license. This upgrade is required to support new Matlab 2013a installations only, and older versions of Matlab will continue to work with the upgraded license server.

Important Reminder: Newman Lab network outage Wednesday morning 10 April 2013

CIT plans to re-route the backbone fiber from their old telecom room into their new Newman basement telecom room Wednesday, April 10. This will take the network down in Newman for about 2 hours. Work should be completed and the network should be back up before 8:00AM. Network nodes in Newman Lab will be able to connect to other nodes located physically in Newman, but will NOT be able to connect to nodes outside of Newman Lab. This includes access to printing, email, the samba file server, Vault server, and network license servers. Please plan accordingly.

CLASSE Safety Handbook authentication

In the coming weeks, the CLASSE Safety Handbook will be reconfigured to authenticate using CLASSE credentials instead of LEPP credentials. When the change is complete, you will login to the CLASSE Safety Handbook using the same credentials used to login to the CLASSE VPN, CLASSE Windows computers, etc.

This will not effect anyone who is accessing the safety handbook from any CLASSE Network or after logging into the CLASSE VPN. This change will only effect users who try to access Private (restricted) safety handbook pages from offsite.

This change is tentatively scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, 4/16. An additional announcement will be included in next weeks newsletter prior to the update.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
