SAMBA service maintenance - 9:30am Tuesday April 30
At approximately 9:30am Tuesday, April 30, there may be a momentary interruption (or pause) of the SAMBA service that provides Windows computers with access to remote file systems. This maintenance is necessary to apply critical firmware updates.
Computer Security Videos
Cornell's IT Security office has added a new Video Gallery
to its web site. Currently, the gallery is hosting three videos aimed at helping the Cornell community increase security awareness:
- Email Phishing 101 A look at the Java phish that caught many Cornellians by surprise
- Secure Passwords in Plain English
- Phishing Scams in Plain English
They can be seen at http://www.it.cornell.edu/security/safety/videos.cfm
Connecting to Secure Wi-Fi Simplified
Mac, iPhone, and iPad users no longer have to download a profile to connect to secure Wi-Fi (eduroam or RedRover-Secure) at Cornell.
After a configuration change was implemented this weekend on Sunday, April 28, connecting to secure Wi-Fi should be one quick step. End users who have already configured devices for eduroam or RedRover-Secure will not be affected; no changes to current Wi-Fi settings or configurations are necessary.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12 noon to 2:00 PM.
The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter
and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L
, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM
, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations
