Today's topics:

Powering down desktop computers for the holidays.

If you'll be away for an extended period of time, please do a graceful shutdown of your desktop computer. If you'll only be away for a day or two, please turn off only its display so that backups and software updates can be done while you're gone.

Computer problem reporting over the holidays

Please continue to submit computer problem reports during the holiday period, using email to service-classe@cornell.edu or by using the Web form at https://wiki.classe.cornell.edu/Computing/ServiceRequest

Although computer support staff are unlikely to be on campus, they will be checking their email and responding to critical problems. Resolution of non-critical problems probably will be postponed until after the holidays.

LabVIEW training

A free course on programming LabVIEW will be taught on campus Tuesday, January 14, 2014, through Thursday, January 16. Seating is limited. For details and to register, please see http://app.demand.ni.com/e/er?espuid=CNATL000008499733&s=639&lid=76121&elq=f20ebb44405d4f038d3adaa2d1bc6b7b

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
