VPN outage Tuesday at 10AM-11AM
We will be migrating the VPN endpoint of the CLASSE VPN from a legacy server to a clustered service at 10AM this Tuesday, February 4, 2014. It should complete within an hour. Please watch CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L or the
NetworkStatus Wiki pages for updates - we will post any delays there. During the outage, you can use wired connections for accessing CLASSE services if on site.
PC669 is being retired
PC669 is the public Windows 7 VM for changing CLASSE passwords. We have updated the documentation to use LNX201, our CLASSE public Linux login node to change passwords.
LNSNTCAD retirement Tuesday, February 11, 2014
We will be shutting down the legacy LNSNTCAD NT4 domain at 10AM on Tuesday, February 11,/2014. All Windows and most Linux computers are capable of authenticating to CLASSE, and in fact are already migrated. Windows XP is no longer supported by Cornell and will not be supported by CLASSE past March. If you are running a LNSNTCAD Windows XP computer, it will potentially have issues after 10AM on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. We will need to replace the computer or re-image with Windows 7. Please contact
service-classe@cornell.edu and open a service request if you need your computer re-imaged.
Maintainers of the Scientific Linux Distribution have repackaged the Red Hat Developer Toolset 2.0 and Red Hat Software Collections for use with Scientific Linux. We have now finished our testing of these packages and they will be installed on every CLASSE linux computer on Tuesday, 04-Feb-2014. The updated packages include gfortran 4.8.1, OProfile 0.9.8 and Python 3.3.2 but for the complete list and instructions on how to enable the use of the packages, please see the CLASSE Fortran Compilers wiki page:

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
