CLASSE Authentication for additional web services.
On Tuesday, 1/28, the CLASSE IT group will work to transition several remaining web services to CLASSE Authentication. When this is complete, you will login to the CLASSE Training Database, Electronic Document Management System (EDMS), some ELOG logbooks, HyperNews
, and cesrweb using your CLASSE username and password.
During this transition, some of the web services may be temporarily unavailable. Once a service has been migrated to CLASSE, you will be prompted for your CLASSE Login when attempting to login.

Computer hardware and software purchases
This request concerns all purchases of computer hardware that will connect directly to the CLASSE network, as well as software that will be installed on CLASSE systems. In particular, many scientific instruments are now shipped with embedded operating systems and require network connectivity.
The CLASSE IT group needs to be informed in advance (via firstname.lastname@example.org
) of such equipment or software, even when we are not directly involved in the purchasing process. By doing so, you give us a chance to ensure compatibility with our computing environment, and you enable us to be better prepared to provide timely support when the equipment or software arrives. For example, if an embedded operating system is obsolete and insecure, then we must prepare a private subnet for the equipment.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns, and thank you for your cooperation.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12 noon to 2:00 PM.
The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter
and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L
, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM
, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations
