Campus-wide Network Interruptions
Campus network connections will be briefly unavailable several times on Sunday, June 19th. These outages will affect Newman Lab, Wilson Lab, the Annex and the Physical Sciences Building at different times. While we do not expect there to be problems with networks within each building, there will be problems communicating between buildings during the outages. There will be a brief interruption in connectivity between the CHESS and LEPP networks and between LEPP and the outside world.
Cornell's central network services will be doing their semi-annual update of the firmware of all of the campus network switches on Sunday, June 19, 2011.
The estimated downtime for each switch is about 5 minutes. Unfortunately, the time when a particular switch will be updated cannot be predicted.
Solaris and Linux Farms are Back to Normal
As of Friday, 6/10, the air conditioners in the LEPP trailer's computer room were repaired and all of the Solaris and Linux farm nodes were brought back online.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
