Today's topics:

Linux Firefox

Redhat has released Firefox 10 ESR as a security update to firefox in EL5 and EL6. All LEPP Linux users should begin using the OS-supported installation of firefox (/usr/bin/firefox) rather than any versions installed for testing in /nfs/opt.

SSL Certificate Renewal

Most of LEPP's SSL certificates have been renewed for another three years. You may be prompted accept the new certificates the first time they are used (for example, when using svn to access the accelerator repository).

CESR Linux Cluster Upgrade

The CESR Linux server cluster will be upgraded from SL5 to SL6 on Tuesday, 3/27.

Starting at 10:00am, all processes will be moved off of cesr101, cesr102, cesr103, and cesr104. The migration of all cluster services should occur without interruption. Any user processes running on these systems will be killed at that time. cesr106 - cesr111 will remain available for use during this time. Please move all services from cesr101 - cesr104 to cesr106 - cesr111 before 10am Tuesday.

From 2:00pm until approximately 3:00pm, the cluster services will move from SL5 to SL6. During this time, the CESR Online and CESR Home file systems may be unavailable.

After 3:00pm, all CESR cluster services should be running on the SL6 cluster (cesr101 - cesr105). Users will be able to run on cesr102 - cesr105. In addition, cesr106 - cesr111 will still be available for use as SL5 systems.

Printing - PC00

A reminder that PC00 is no longer in use. Windows XP users should delete any printer queues using PC00. Please use PC221 for your print queue when adding a printer.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
