Java for Kronos Under Firefox
The LEPP preferred browser for running Kronos is Firefox. If Kronos complains that Java is not available, you should try to enable it: In the Firefox window, go to the menu Tools -> Add-ons and then choose Plugins. Under the Java entry, click on the button labelled "Enable". Then logout from Kronos and log back in.
A pictorial example of enabling Java can be seen at
https://wiki.lepp.cornell.edu/lepp/bin/view/Computing/CmpGrp/Obsolete/EnableJavaFirefox
If the Java entry is missing from Firefox's Plugins menu, or if enabling it does not solve the problem, please notify Service immediately: Send email to
service-lepp@cornell.edu or goto the Web page

CLASSE VPN Service Update
The LEPP VPN service zeroshell has been upgraded to be a CLASSE VPN service. As mentioned in previous newsletters, by default it wants your CLASSE Active Directory credentials. Alternatively, you can use your LEPP Unix interactive userid and password, if you specify "@lns.cornell.edu" after your LEPP Unix userid.
The only visible change is that the assigned IP addresses will be 172.50.0.x instead of 192.168.50.x. That address is randomly assigned from a dynamic pool. We may need to ask for that VPN IP address to provide remote support. You can always see your current VPN IP address by hovering the mouse cursor over the agent once the VPN connection has been established..
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
