Brief network outage 9am EST, Tuesday, November 19, 2013

There will be a brief network outage starting at 9am EST, Tuesday, November 19, 2013. We expect the outage to be less than 10 minutes but it could be longer if we encounter problems.

Unfortunately, our previous attempt did encounter serious problems.

This outage will affect all of LEPP's network services, including wired network connectivity for Newman Lab, the Physical Sciences Building and Wilson Lab. We don't expect it to directly impact the CESR, ERL and SRF control systems' networks, but connections between LEPP and CHESS and between LEPP and the outside world will go down. Connections between CHESS and the outside world will be unaffected. Also, connections from Red Rover and eduroam to the outside world will be unaffected.

The central LEPP router will be upgraded from a Cisco router to a Vyatta router which will provide higher throughput and additional functionality. Among other things, it will improve LEPP's connection to the campus backbone from 100 Megabits/sec to 1 Gigabit/sec.

Firefox 24.01ESR coming soon!

The latest "Extended Support Release" of Mozilla Firefox (version 24ESR) will be pushed out to CLASSE Windows users soon- as early as next week- as support for Firefox 17ESR is coming to an end.

Replicon Web TimeSheet 8.27

The upgrade from Replicon WTS 8.24 to 8.27 was successful, however you may need to clear your web browsers 'cache' to avoid issues using it. We have tested the latest Replicon WTS with the latest Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Opera web browsers, which all appear to handle Replicon without problems. General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
