Campus network outage Sunday, December 1
On Sunday, December 1st between 5:00am and 12:00pm CIT Network Engineering will upgrade campus routers to the latest maintenance release of code. During this window all campus buildings will experience a loss of data network connectivity (both wired and wireless) for approximately 10 minutes. For more information, please follow CIT's IT Status Alert:
http://www.it.cornell.edu/services/alert.cfm?id=2917 .
Brief samba interruption at 10am Tuesday, 11/26
At 10am Tuesday, 11/26, connections to samba.classe.cornell.edu or samba.chess.cornell.edu may experience a brief interruption. This is necessary to stabilize and standardize the connections from all of CLASSE to our centralized samba service. Please submit a
ServiceRequest with any questions or concerns.
Last Week's Exchange/Office 365 outage (Thursday through Saturday)
Late last Thursday through late last Saturday, Microsoft experienced a wide-spread DNS outage. This affected most (but not all) accounts on all of their services ( XBoxOne, Office 365, SkyDrive, etc). This has caused a delay of more than 8 hours for Cornell's Office 365 email in addition to mail delivery errors for mail systems trying to send mail to Office 365.
Please ZIP examples of mail delivery errors and late mail delivery
with full headers and send them to
itservicedesk@cornell.edu with a subject similar to "November 22nd mail delivery problems" (If you just forward them, not in a ZIP file, the mail system will refuse to deliver them.

Replicon security improvements
Starting Tuesday, anyone browsing to Replicon from offsite will have to first login using their CLASSE credentials before logging in to Replicon. This will not affect anyone already connected to a CLASSE network or to the CLASSE VPN.
RedRover feedback
CIT is beta-testing their wifi performance feedback database. Users can help populate their database by filling out a short survey at
https://ratemywifi.cit.cornell.edu/. You can submit as many times as you would like from any Cornell wifi location.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
