CLASSE Authentication in Wilson Public Terminal Room

To prepare for the upcoming CHESS run and the expected use of W315 (the Wilson Public Terminal Room) by CHESS Users, the linux systems in W315 have now been switched over to CLASSE authentication. This means that if you do not already have a valid CLASSE or LNS Kerberos ticket, you will need to enter your CLASSE username and password to login to lnx6144, lnx6147, and lnx4200.

Most CLASSE Linux systems still default to the LNS kerberos domain, and a lab-wide migration is not planned until the next extended down. If you have not already done so, we would like to again encourage everyone to set their CLASSE, LNS Interactive, and LNS Network passwords to the same value. This will simplify your access to all CLASSE resources and negate any impact from moving individual systems and services between CLASSE and LNS. For more information, please see CLASSESinglePassword (https://wiki.classe.cornell.edu/Computing/Obsolete/CLASSESinglePassword). Please email service-classe@cornell.edu if you would like any assistance testing or changing any of your CLASSE passwords.

Network Outage in Wilson Lab on Tuesday Morning. Note: This will affect CLASSE network connectivity at Newman and the PSB.

There is a brief network outage planned for the Wilson Lab on Tuesday morning October 8, 2013, from approximately 7:30-8:00am, for CIT to install some upgraded network components. This outage will disrupt external connections to the CLASSE networks, including connections to Newman Lab and the Physical Sciences Building. Down time is estimated at "about 5 minutes", but could take longer if problems arise.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
