Today's topics:

Exchange migration started on Tuesday, September 6, 2011.

CIT began migrating all mail accounts from servers running Exchange 2007 to servers running Exchange 2010 on Tuesday, September 6th. They do not expect mail delivery to be interrupted. They send email notices before and after each account is migrated. About 2000 accounts are moved each day.

People using Macs or Outlook Web Access who have already been moved will see some Calendar issues when viewing accounts which have not yet been moved.

People using smartphones may have to change the Exchange server name from e2007.exchange.cornell.edu to exchange.cornell.edu

More information is available at http://www.cit.cornell.edu/exchange2010/ and http://www.cit.cornell.edu/services/guides/facstaff_email/exchange2010/strategy.cfm

Outlook and Exchange 2010 login problems

Some people have experienced Exchange login problems. CIT informs us that many of them are being caused by the Exchange servers being overloaded today because of timeout problems caused by interference between their Backups and the tail end of this weekend's migrations from the old Exchange 2007 service to the new Exchange 2010 service. Hopefully they'll clear up by this evening.

As a workaround, Web access to https://exchange.cornell.edu/ does not seem to have the problem.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
