Computer Use for Visiting CLASSE Researchers
Policies
All visiting researchers are expected to comply with all CLASSE policies on computer use while using CLASSE computing resources:
Network Connections
Cornell Wi-fi
Visiting researchers may connect to Cornell University's
eduroam or Cornell-Visitor wi-fi service.
Specialized connections to CLASSE networks
Visiting researchers who wish to connect a non-CLASSE computer directly to any CLASSE network must register the computer in advance using this form:
Furthermore, if a connection to a CLASSE
research network is needed, we require the following safeguards to be in place:
- Attestation that the computer does not currently contain any malware.
- Appropriate endpoint security software (historically known as anti-virus software) has been installed and updated, with documentation of a full computer scan performed within the last 7 days with no threats detected.
- Appropriate host-based firewall enabled, with a "default deny" setting for incoming network connections.
- This is the default recommended setting for Windows 10 and newer versions of Windows; it is also the default configuration for most other host firewalls on Windows and MacOS.
Please contact CLASSE-IT by submitting a
ServiceRequest to have these requirements validated (either in person or remotely). We are eager to assist you in understanding and meeting these requirements.
Data Privacy
All visiting researchers are expected to respect the data privacy of other visiting researchers and CLASSE personnel.
