RedRover and Cordless Phones

If you use a Cordless Phone at CLASSE, please verify the frequency range that it uses. Cordless phones operating in the 2.4 and 5.8 GHz frequency bands can interfere with RedRover wireless connectivity, disrupting wireless network access for everyone in the vicinity of the phone. CIT has recommended that any such phone be replaced by a DECT 6.0, 1.9 GHz range handset cordless phone.

Self-Service Software for Windows

We are introducing a new method for providing some commonly-requested software packages for Windows. For more details, please see https://wiki.classe.cornell.edu/Computing/SelectedSelfServiceSoftware.

Currently available is Skype. Additional packages may be requested by submitting a ServiceRequest.

Note that we have verified that this type of package runs properly on CLASSE Windows systems, but otherwise, we do not provide assistance with using them. Also, these packages (when distributed in this way) must be run only on CLASSE-owned computers, not personal computers.

Introductory Video Tutorials

A couple of introductory video tutorials have been produced which we hope some might find useful.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
