CLASSE Managed Windows updates - Computer may REBOOT

  • Tonight during the normal updates, your computer might reboot if a PDF is open, in addition to normal potential Windows Update reboots.
  • We are updating
    • Web Browsing - Firefox, Flash, Java
    • PDF Editing and Viewing - new feature in Editor, F11 (view document fullscreen) is now supported.

Scheduled Maintenance of the ILC Disk Server on Tuesday 27-Jan-2014

There will be a two hour maintenance, starting at 10:00 am, of the ILC Disk Server (lnx11a.lns.cornell.edu) on Tuesday 27-Jan-2014 to replace the failed battery backup on the RAID card. Although the RAID card is functioning and there is no problem with any of the files on any of the RAID disks, there is small chance that a sudden power failure may (in theory) cause filesystem corruption.

During the scheduled maintenance, the following network filesystems will not be available:

  • /nfs/ilc/sim1
  • /nfs/ilc/sim2
  • /nfs/ilc/sim3

Linux Adobe Flash Firefox Plugin Security update on Tuesday 27-Jan-2014

The patched Adobe Flash Firefox Plugin Security update (version 11.2.202.440) will be pushed to all CLASSE Linux SL6 systems on Tuesday 27-Jan-2014. For detailed information about the security patch, please see http://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb15-02.html

CLASSE Accelerator Code (SVN) Repository changes.

  • The Acc Code Repository now has Anonymous read (check-out) access to certain code project areas, thus no CLASSE ID is required to access the following areas:
    • /CESR/CESR_libs/cesr_utils/
    • /trunk/build_system/
    • /trunk/packages/
    • /trunk/src/
    • /trunk/util/

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
