Windows Office 2010 upgrade: Monday evening

Reminder: Please exit from all Windows Office applications before 4:30 PM, Monday, October 17th. You will still be able to read and write email by using "Outlook Web App" at https://exchange.cornell.edu/ However, it would be best to close all programs and logout. After the upgrade has finished, the computer will need to reboot. When that happens, any open files are likely to be lost.

LEPP-managed Windows laptops should be left plugged in, running with the lid open, and connected to the network so the update can take place Monday evening. Otherwise the update will start immediately the next time the computer is connected to the network, which is likely to be extremely inconvenient.

LEPP Windows Office software is scheduled to be updated from Office 2007 to Office 2010 on all LEPP Windows computers starting at 4:30 PM on Monday. The update is expected to be finished by Tuesday morning. It is expected that some small percentage will have an issue with the update working for various unforeseen reasons. If you do find that the upgrade did not work, please open a service request. WinApp (PC102, Windows Terminal Server) will be down Monday for the Office Upgrade

I expect to start at 10AM and finish by 4:30PM. Updates will be posted on the Network Status Page.After the Update, you will need to revisit the WinApp Wiki Page here: https://wiki.lepp.cornell.edu/lepp/bin/view/Computing/AccessingWinApp for new shortcut files.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
