GitLab Updates: Tuesday, 12-Jul-2022 @ 10:30 AM
On Tuesday, 12-Jul-2022, at 10:30 AM, the
CLASSE GitLab will be unavailable for approximately one hour for a series of updates. Please submit a
ServiceRequest if you have any questions or concerns.
Network License Server Maintenance: Tuesday, 12-Jul-2022 @ 10:30 AM
On Tuesday, 12-Jul-2022, at 10:30 AM, the CLASSE network license server (LNXLM) will be rebooted, resulting in a 10 minute outage for applications that need to obtain network licenses, such as Matlab, Mathematica, and Autodesk products. Please submit a
ServiceRequest if you have any questions or concerns.
Compute Farm Reduced Capacity: Beginning 18-Jul-2022 @ 8:00 AM
Starting Monday, 18-Jul-2022 @ 8:00 AM, most CLASSE Compute Farm batch queues will be disabled in advance of the Wilson Lab East Module power outage on Wednesday, 20-Jul-2022. Please note that interactive and CHESS queues are excluded from this two-day pre-outage pause; jobs running in these queues will instead be terminated early morning on Wednesday, 20-Jul-2022, when the East Module power is cut.
Any terminated jobs can be resubmitted immediately to the "all.q" and "interactive.q" queues for continued processing throughout the power outage and recovery (likely through the end of the day on Wednesday, 20-Jul-2022). This continuity of service is made possible by two new farm nodes that have been deployed in Wilson 221. However, farm capacity will be severely degraded, so you may need to wait for resources to become available before your job is scheduled.
Please submit a
ServiceRequest with any questions or concerns, and consider subscribing to the
classe-it-news-l mailing list for additional announcements and information.
[PSA] Patch Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge Browsers
The Cornell IT Security Office has issued the following urgent notice regarding the Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge web browsers: "Short Summary: A zero-day vulnerability in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge for Windows, macOS, and Linux may allow malicious actors, if successful, to execute arbitrary code on affected systems. Google states this vulnerability is being actively exploited. Patch now."
CLASSE personnel who have installed Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on their personal or CLASSE systems are strongly urged to update their browsers as soon as possible with patches given here:
https://itservicealerts.hosting.cornell.edu/view/6690
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
