macOS Catalina Deprecation

Apple has officially announced that macOS Ventura (i.e., macOS 13) will be released today, Monday, 24-Oct-2022. After this release, macOS Catalina (10.15) and all earlier versions of macOS will no longer be supported by Apple. To be compliant with Cornell University security requirements, Cornell-owned macOS devices must be running one of the three most recent Apple-supported versions of macOS:

• Ventura (macOS 13.x)
• Monterey (macOS 12.x)
• Big Sur (macOS 11.x)

Third-party software vendors often adhere to Apple’s support model and will drop official support for unsupported versions of macOS. However, the latest version of ESET, the antimalware software distributed to CLASSE-managed Macs, does not yet work on macOS Ventura. Therefore, CLASSE-managed Macs will NOT be upgraded to macOS Ventura until the ESET issue has been resolved.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
