Scientific Linux 7 Deprecation

In preparation for the end of support for Scientific Linux 7 (SL7) on 30-Jun-2024, we will be upgrading all CLASSE Linux systems to AlmaLinux 9 over the next few weeks. If you have a CLASSE-managed Linux desktop or laptop system, we will contact you via a ticket to schedule the upgrade. Please also consider switching from lnx201.classe.cornell.edu (SL7) to lnx209.classe.cornell.edu (AlmaLinux 9) as a general-purpose landing pad.

AppsAnywhere Upgrade and Outage: Tuesday, 28-May-2024 @ 10:30 AM

On Tuesday, 28-May-2024, starting at 10:30 AM, the AppsAnywhere service will be unavailable for up to 4 hours for a Cloudpaging server upgrade. During this time, any applications that are active might report that there is an interruption; they will resume when the connection returns. Applications that are "offline allowed" will not be affected. After the server upgrade is complete, a new version of the CloudPaging Player software will be pushed to your computer when you access the AppsAnywhere web interface, and you will be prompted to reboot. If you have any questions or concerns, please submit a ServiceRequest.

Help Us Help You

For anyone submitting a CLASSE-IT ticket, we have compiled a list of tips for making the best use of our ticketing system. For example, when reporting a problem, please give us the computer name and a WBS (or account number), if applicable. If you can, please list the steps for reproducing your problem. Including images and screenshots is useful, but not as useful as copying-and-pasting exact text. Tickets are automatically seen by all CLASSE-IT team members; to add others to a ticket, you can CC them at the time of submission. As always, we welcome any questions or comments, and we hope that these suggestions can help us help you.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
