CLASSE-IT User Guide

The landing page for the CLASSE-IT wiki has been given a makeover. It is now formatted for mobile devices, and documentation has been reorganized. If have trouble finding any links or content on the new site, please let us know by submitting a ServiceRequest.

Change to Timesheet URL

If you submit a timesheet and you have bookmarked the link to timesheet using your employee id as a parameter, it may no longer work. Please update your bookmarks so that the link to your current timesheet is: https://webapps.classe.cornell.edu/busoffsuite/secure/timesheet/TimeEntry.xhtml

macOS Sequoia Release

Apple is officially released the macOS Sequoia (macOS 15) operating system today, 16-Sep-2024. However, CLASSE services have not yet been evaluated for compatibility with this new operating system, so we are not upgrading CLASSE-managed Macs to Sequoia at this time. Furthermore, Apple is dropping official support for macOS Monterey (macOS 12) later this fall, so we are upgrading CLASSE-managed Macs to newer operating systems as necessary, for compliance with the Cornell University Policy on Information Security.

Compute Farm Upgrade to AlmaLinux 9

Over the next few months, we will be upgrading the CLASSE Compute Farm from Scientific Linux 7 (EL7) to AlmaLinux 9 (EL9). During this upgrade, any submitted jobs will default to running on SL7 nodes, for legacy compatibility with some executables. However, if you wish to submit jobs to Alma9 nodes, please use the "-l os_name=el9" SGE GridEngine flag. To see which nodes are running Alma9 (and the queues on those nodes), please type "qhost -q -l os_name=el9". When the upgrade nears completion, we will change the default operating system from SL7 to Alma9. If you have any questions or concerns, please submit a ServiceRequest.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
