[Update] Teams on CLASSE-Managed Windows Computers
We
previously explained that the new Microsoft Teams app is unable to be installed on CLASSE-managed Windows computers running Windows 10. However, we have found a workaround: new Teams can be installed as a Progressive Web App in your web browser for a similar experience to the desktop client. For instructions, please see;
https://wiki.classe.cornell.edu/Computing/RunningMicrosoftTeamsInWindows10.
LNX201 Updates
Throughout this down, we will be making incremental changes to LNX201 in an effort to improve the stability and availability of the system for all users. We will be implementing (and adjusting) CPU, memory, and disk I/O limits on individual users and processes. This work will also serve as a test bed for better resource allocation in the
Compute Farm.
As a reminder, please use LNX201 only as a landing pad and for basic productivity tasks. All CPU and memory intensive jobs should be submitted to the
Compute Farm. Please open a
ServiceRequest or email
service-classe@cornell.edu with any questions or concerns.
Compute Farm Upgrade to AlmaLinux 9
This week, we are upgrading the following
CLASSE Compute Farm node to AlmaLinux 9: lnx327. The queues on this node are paused to allow existing jobs to finish, and they will be re-enabled by Wednesday. If you wish to submit jobs to these AlmaLinux 9 nodes after the upgrade, please use the "-l os_name=el9" SGE GridEngine flag. Otherwise, any submitted jobs will default to running on Scientific Linux 7 nodes, for legacy compatibility with some executables.
This will be the last set of Farm nodes to be migrated to AlmaLinux 9 until after the Winter Down, to allow work on other scheduled projects.
Last week, we completed the AlmaLinux 9 upgrade of lnx307 and lnx321. To see a complete list of Alma9 nodes (and the queues on those nodes), please type "qhost -q -l os_name=el9". The list of uppgraded nodes are: ilc320, ilc321, ilc322, ilc323, ilc324, ilc325, ilc326, lnx-id1a3-1, lnx1622, lnx1624,lnx202, lnx203, lnx307, lnx309, lnx310, lnx321, lnx325, lnx330, lnx331, lnx332, lnx333, lnx334 and lnx4428. In the future, we will change the default operating system from SL7 to AlmaLinux 9. If you have any questions or concerns, please submit a
ServiceRequest.
[PSA] Cornell Duo Verified Push: Thursday, 21-Nov-2024
On Thursday, 21-Nov-2024, CIT will implement Duo Verified Push for Cornell staff in your unit. This feature will provide you with increased security when you log in to secure web services. After this date, when you use Duo Push to log in to a Cornell web application, the Duo prompt in your browser will include a three-digit code. Your Duo Mobile app will include a field to enter the provided code. Simply enter the code, then touch Verify to complete the verification. This change will not affect logins to CUVPN, SSH, RDP or other non-web applications.
For now, this change does NOT apply to CLASSE Duo.
[PSA] Wilson Annex Network Maintenance Alert: Tuesday, 26-Nov-2024 @ 8:00 AM
On Tuesday, 26-Nov-2024, at 8:00 AM, CIT will be upgrading the fiber connection between the Print Shop CIT network switch and the Wilson Annes CIT network switch to 10 Gb. Some network devices within the Annex will not be able to communicate over the network during this brief outage. In addition, some devices may need to be restarted afterwards to restore network connectivity.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
