CLASSE Filesystem and Linux Outage: Tuesday, 08-Jan-2019 @ 5:00 PM

On Tuesday, 08-Jan-2019, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, we will be replacing a central storage device that has shown repeated failures over the last two months. The following users will be affected:
  • Windows and Mac: Some central (samba) filesystems unavailable, including the CLASSE Home Disk (/home), USER disk (/nfs/user), and TEM disk (/cdat/tem). See the final newsletter entry below for a complete list.
  • Linux: All computers unavailable, including LNX201 (the general-purpose login node) and the CLASSE Compute Farm. Any running processes may or may not be unaffected. To be safe, please log out from any CLASSE Linux computers before this time, and please reboot your Linux desktop after 8:00 PM.

LNX201 will be rebooted on Tuesday, 08-Jan-2019 at 8:00 PM, and other central servers will be recovered (as necessary) throughout Wednesday, 09-Jan-2019. Please report any problems by submitting a ServiceRequest.

PSB Power & Cooling Outages: Wednesday, 09-Jan-2019

On Wednesday, 09-Jan-2019, there will be a power and chilled water outage in the PSB, which might affect some CLASSE-IT services.
  • Power will be out from 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM.
  • Cooling will be out from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Please report any computing issues by submitting a ServiceRequest.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
