Reminder: The end of VMS at CLASSE
After many years of service, all CLASSE computers which are running the legacy VMS operating system will be shut down permanently this summer. An exact date has not yet been decided. This includes LNS61 and LNS62 plus the CESR VMS control cluster: CESR27, CESR23 and their friends. We will be performing a trial shutdown of VMS on July 26. We probably will
NOT bring LNS61 and LNS62 up again.
If you know of any necessary VMS software or procedures which have not yet been migrated to Linux, please notify the CLASSE IT group immediately.
Linux Tutorial for VMS Users
For VMS users who are unfamiliar with Linux, we are organizing a tutorial to be presented by Mike Forster on Wednesday, July 27 at 10 AM in the Wilson Lab East Module Conference Room. All are welcome, but space is limited, so please let us know if you plan to attend. Participants may wish to bring a laptop to practice with. Personal laptops need to be
registered on the LNS Protected network.
Linux Adobe Flash Firefox Plugin Security update on Tuesday 19-Jul-2016
- The patched Adobe Flash Firefox Plugin Security update (version 11.2.202.632) will be pushed to all CLASSE Linux SL6 systems on Tuesday, July 19.
- For detailed information about the security vulnerability, please see here.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
