Working From Home
CLASSE Desktops
CLASSE desktops will not function off-site without significant reconfiguration. Please do not take CLASSE desktops home with you (unless authorized). In most cases, the best option is to remotely control your CLASSE desktop from home. Several options are available that are secure, supportable, and already widely used throughout CLASSE (see above). Moreover, these solutions work well for almost any old and slow computer you may have at home. Please submit a
ServiceRequest to request remote control, and see
RemoteControl for more information.
If you expect to use your desktop computer remotely, please turn off your computer's display; do not turn off the computer itself. In addition, if your CLASSE computer has multiple monitors but your home computer has only one, you may want to unplug one monitor from your CLASSE computer before you leave.
CLASSE IT Support
The CLASSE IT group will continue working as long as you are. In order for us to manage the number of requests we receive and ensure you receive the quickest and best support possible, it is imperitive that you submit a
ServiceRequest by filling out our
online form or emailing
service-classe@cornell.edu. Please
do not email individuals.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
