Firefox Update to 52.1.0ESR on CLASSE Managed Windows Computers

  • CLASSE is updating to the new major ESR release 52 from 45 which we have used for about the last year.
  • Known Issues: Some extensions have issues after the update, especially Tab Groups. As CLASSE doesn't support extensions directly, please try disabling any you have if you have issues after the update. Additional resources may be available directly from Mozilla or the extension author(s).

Autodesk upgrade: Monday, 08-May-2017

A major upgrade to our Autodesk software products will take place on Monday, 08-May-2017. As part of this transition, the Vault will be disabled on Friday, 05-May-2017 for migration to the new version. After the upgrade, Inventor, Vault Pro, CFD, and Multiphysics will be at version 2017 (currently 2015).

Webex to be discontinued on 30-June-2017

Cornell's subscription to WebEx expires on 30-June-2017. As a result, WebEx Recordings will not be available after that date.

The new Zoom service allows for recorded sessions that can be saved directly to the desktop in a MP4 file format. For more information on how to record in Zoom visit: https://it.cornell.edu/zoom/zoom-recording-help

Plugging your computer's ethernet into an unused network port is unlikely to work

We are often asked to fix networking problems after a computer's ethernet cable has been moved from one network port (in a wall jack or 8-port switch) to another. Unfortunately, all network ports are not the same. In fact,
  • about half of the ports in CLASSE buildings are NOT live; to save money, we only activate ports that are needed, and
  • even if a port is activated, it may not be on the right network for your computer. We have over 55 subnets at CLASSE, and your computer works with only one of them.
Please submit a service request when you expect to move a computer's network connection.

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
